Cushion Cover Pattern

Sizing

This pattern is for a cushion cover in one size only, approximately 25cm x 25cm.

Tension

Stocking Stitch: 32 stitches x 42 rows = 10cm2 on tension 6

Materials

4 ply yarn

Instructions

N.B. The tension numbers and needle position letters given are for Brother machines. Please refer to your manual if you use a different type of machine.

This pattern is for a cushion cover made on a single bed using a custom punched pattern card.

  1. Starting with the carriage on the right and cast on 100 stitches using the weave cast on, on tension 5.
  2. Knit stocking stitch for 50 rows.
  3. Hook each stitch from the hem edge back onto the machine hooks.
  4. Knit stocking stitch for 4 rows.
  5. Set the Punchcard and knit 250 rows in a two-colour Fair Isle pattern.
  6. Lock Punchcard and change carriage setting for normal single colour stocking stitch.
  7. Mark position and then knit stocking stitch for 10 rows.

Shape button holes:

  1. Put the rightmost 25 needles into work position B and all other needles into hold position E, change the holding cam lever to H and then knit 10 rows.
  2. Put the next set of 25 hold needles (the needles from 0-25 on the right) into work position B and all other needles into hold position E and then knit 10 rows.
  3. Put the next set of 25 hold needles (the needles from 0-25 on the left) into work position B and all other needles into hold position E and then knit 10 rows.
  4. Put the leftmost 25 needles into work position B and all other needles into hold position E and then knit 10 rows.
  5. Put all needles back into work position and knit 10 rows.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5.

  1. Pick up all stitches from marked position and put back on to needles.
  2. Knit 1 row then cast off. 


Making up


  1. Sew around edges of button holes to attach the two layers together.
  2. Attach buttons to plain band in line with the button holes.
  3. Fasten buttons and then turn the cushion cover inside out. Flatten and pin the two sides together.
  4. Sew up both sides then open buttons, turn to back to the right side and insert a cushion insert and fasten buttons to finish.
